ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Pack or package a variety of products and materials by hand, cut, trim and prepare meat for use and/or sale in the meat market.
- Counts, measures, and weighs materials and products
- Removes defective products or materials, placing them in specified areas for handling
- Constructs, lines, and pads cartons, crates, and containers using hand tools
- Examines containers, products, and materials for quality control and ensures packing requirements are met
- Seals containers or materials using hand tools, fasteners, nails, or glue
- Marks and labels containers, container tags, labels, or products
- Enters packing, order, and product information in or on required forms, records, or other documents
- Stacks boxes on pallets
- Loads products and materials into package-processing equipment
- Transports packages to customers’ vehicles, loading areas, or other specified zones
- Operates meat processing equipment
- Uses hand tools and power equipment to cut meat to specifications
- Tenderizes, packages, weighs, labels, and prices meat products
- Arranges meat products in display counter to attract attention of customers
- Prepares special-ordered cuts of meat for customers
- Evaluates quality control and ensures workspace is kept sanitary
- Ensures products comply with all U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) guidelines
- Receives and stores meat when it is delivered and ensures its quality and freshness
- Oversees meat inventory and places orders to maintain inventories
- Notifies manager of any problems or issues that could affect the quality of meat products sold to customers
- Meets productivity, accuracy, and quality standards
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to follow directions
- Ability to assess products for quality compliance
- Good time management skills
- Basic understanding of principles and processes of customer service
- One year of general work experience preferred
- At least three years of experience in meat cutting, packaging and food handling preferred
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
