JOB SUMMARY
The Production Manager is responsible for leading and coordinating production operations to achieve safety, quality, service, and cost objectives. This role oversees production supervisors and team members while ensuring efficient manufacturing processes, compliance with safety and food safety standards, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Production Manager will play a key role in developing employees, improving productivity, and ensuring production goals are met in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Lead and coordinate daily production operations to ensure safety, quality, service, and cost performance goals are achieved.
- Supervise and direct production supervisors and production teams to maintain efficient workflow and productivity.
- Coordinate cleaning, sanitation, waste handling, and storage activities in accordance with company and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with managers and supervisors across departments to ensure smooth operational coordination.
- Develop a strong understanding of manufacturing equipment and demonstrate safe operation procedures to team members.
- Review and analyze production reports to identify opportunities for improvements in efficiency, productivity, and waste reduction.
- Develop, implement, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Review production schedules and work orders to determine staffing, inventory requirements, work assignments, and operational priorities.
- Hire, train, evaluate, and coach production staff while supporting employee development and retention.
- Address personnel issues, resolve employee concerns, and manage disciplinary actions when necessary.
- Manage employee time and attendance and maintain accurate documentation for personnel records, incident reports, and employee counseling.
- Monitor workplace safety and sanitation practices and address safety incidents or injuries in collaboration with HR.
- Ensure proper documentation of materials, job processes, and production activities within the ERP system.
- Maintain compliance with all company policies, safety standards, and food safety regulations.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or GED required; 4-year technical or related degree preferred.
- 4–6+ years of manufacturing experience in CPG environments, preferably within food and beverage production.
- Strong knowledge of GMPs, HACCP, and SQF standards.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing production teams in a manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes including raw materials, production inputs/outputs, quality control, waste management, and cost efficiency.
- Understanding of business and operational planning including resource allocation, manpower planning, leadership techniques, and production methods.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and motivate teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook, along with strong computer and basic math skills.
- Experience working with ERP systems for production tracking, reporting, and documentation.
- Ability to stand and be on your feet for extended periods (8–10 hours per shift).
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills in a fast-paced production environment.
