SUMMARY
The Service Manager will oversee the daily operations of the service department, ensuring high-quality maintenance, repair, and diagnostic services for agricultural, construction, recreational, and yard and garden equipment. This role is responsible for supervising service staff, driving departmental productivity, maintaining customer satisfaction, and contributing to overall profitability. The Service Manager will collaborate with technicians, service writers, and other team members to streamline workflows, ensure timely service, and maintain a safe and organized shop environment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Supervise and coordinate all service department staff, including technicians, service writers, and support personnel.
- Assign and monitor work orders to ensure timely, accurate, and high-quality completion.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback to service staff through regular check-ins and monthly one-on-ones.
- Monitor technician productivity and efficiency, implementing strategies to improve performance and profitability.
- Communicate directly with customers regarding service status, repairs, and resolutions to maintain a high level of satisfaction.
- Collaborate with Parts and Sales departments to coordinate workflow and ensure customer needs are met.
- Track and manage departmental expenses to align with budget expectations.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of work orders, inspections, and service records.
- Enforce compliance with company policies, safety procedures, and shop cleanliness standards.
- Participate in recruiting, onboarding, and evaluating service department employees.
- Support ongoing employee training and development to enhance team skills and performance.
- Report regularly to the Store Manager and Regional Manager regarding staffing, operational challenges, and department needs.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in service management or a related supervisory role.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with knowledge of agricultural or construction equipment.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to coach, mentor, and develop team members.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to resolve conflicts effectively.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and Google Suite.
- Ability to diagnose equipment issues and provide direction on repair processes.
- Ability to lift up to 70 lbs and work in both indoor and outdoor conditions.
- Willingness to work extended hours and Saturdays during peak seasons.
